Today is “National Fish and Chip Day” but my family and I had our fish and chips last night for dinner. I had a chip butty with mushy peas – my all time favourite. I have cooked fish and chips at home before from scratch without a [amazon_textlink asin=’B016AGM15O’ text=’deep fat fryer’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’wwwlovetobake-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’940dcecb-47a8-11e7-8268-b3e921008726′] ( as I don’t own one) but you cannot beat those from your favourite chippy especially when you can’t be bothered to cook anything. Yes even those who enjoy baking and creating in the kitchen need a night off once in a while. Maybe I will look into deep fat fryers and review some of them – ask a few friends if they have one – good points and bad points. I don’t think I will buy one myself for my kitchen as I don’t think I will use it that often. I will have to do this as a blog post some time in the future.
The Naan Bread recipe I used the other night which was based on a recipe I found on Genius Kitchen by [amazon_textlink asin=’0091949475′ text=’Madhur Jaffrey’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’wwwlovetobake-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’5a01770f-47a9-11e7-b523-233dcb417083′]. I have shared a link to a book by this wonderful cook as it is a book I have just purchased recently and I love it. It is full of vegetarian recipes which are so easy to change to suit whatever tastes.The methods are easy to follow and this is the style of recipe book I am aiming for. Eventually, I want to join all my mini recipe books together as one large collection with coloured photos and everything. This is my aim for the future. I have already added meat to a curry recipe from this book to suit my husband and daughter rather than myself. Well I made the vegetarian option and added meat to some of it- so we shared the curry.
After making the Naan bread recipe a while ago I set about changing what I wanted to in order to try out a different idea with the recipe. I added cheese in the recipe and more salt but I think with this recipe you could add whatever you want, for example, garlic and coriander, peas, curry powder. I used these “Cheesy Naan Breads” to make sandwiches with for a picnic with the family. They were delicious stuffed full with of their favourite sandwich filling.
Baking in the kitchen this morning, I have made another picnic idea which my husband has eaten for his lunch today. My third book is nearly finished so this is what I will be concentrating on over the weekend. Also, I made a caramel cookie just to use some Homemade Caramel Sauce which I made last week for a gateau but has been stored in the fridge all week. My children and their friends have already tried the cookie and I think it was a big hit judging by their reactions.

I love finding a recipe that I can change a few ingredients with and alter the flavouring to make something completely different. Sometimes I change the recipe and the resultant bake does not work out very well or not how I expected it to but the family still end up eating it. From these near disasters I work out how to improve the recipe and what went wrong so that the next time I try the recipe it does not turn out the same.
For the children going back to school next week, I am going to bake some tray bake of some description which will last them a few days as part of their packed lunches. Anyway back to the recipe book I must go, although looking outside the weather is good right now so I may go and spend some time with the children. 🙂
