What can I say,  I have been  off on my holidays and this year we went camping in a tent. We managed to do a bit of travelling as well as camping so the children were rather excited. I had ordered my groceries to be delivered to the campsite so that we did not have to try and take them with us or go shopping when we arrived. This saved a lot of time and hassle as the food arrived after we had put the tent up and we were ready for a cuppa.

Meal wise, I had planned to try and save money and make meals at the tent using the facilities, which we had available. I stuck to this plan rigidly and the meals all went to plan. Every meal was a hit with the family and nothing went to waste.

On the menu, last week:-

  • Pizza made on the barbecue
  • Pasta and sauce
  • Burgers on the barbecue
  • Meal out

Other than that we have one pudding idea which is going to be made using the barbecue as well. The children have been searching all week for ideas of meals, which we can have.  Pinterest is a great source for ideas and is used a lot in my house.These meals had to be the same for everyone as there was no room for cooking different meals on a two ringed camping stove. There was a couple of breakfasts choices during the week ranging from cereal, toast or bacon, egg, sausage etc.

The start of the meal consisted of homemade Pizza made using paninis, tomato puree and cheese. As I didn’t have any [amazon_textlink asin=’B0001IX1KM’ text=’grater ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’wwwlovetobake-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’07808926-7c63-11e7-bafb-e5fd22b5c6f7′]with me the cheese was sliced before being added it to the top. To cook these pizzas I wrapped them in foil and placed them on a bbq. First, I placed the pizzas base down on the bbq but I left them for too long which caused the base to burn and char which would have spoiled the pizzas. However, I quickly realised this and  turned the pizzas over to help the cheese to melt onto the pizza but it fell onto the foil. Those that had overcooked were still eaten as the family were starving and fresh air makes you hungry. 🙂 This idea is one which I intend to work on as I can practice in the garden with the [amazon_textlink asin=’B00UALXY6Q’ text=’camping stove’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’wwwlovetobake-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’4547d6b7-7c60-11e7-a640-9588a855c4fc’] and make something that is just as good as homemade in the kitchen.

The pudding which we made on the bbq nights was  Smores Cones. These were a sweet delight which the children helped to make from scratch (almost). The [amazon_textlink asin=’B0083FXT4I’ text=’waffle cones’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’wwwlovetobake-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=”] were filled with marshmallows and chocolate with a selection of fresh fruit to boot. They were then wrapped in foil and then sat on the bbq tray an allowed to warm through for several minutes on a cooler bbq setting. We used a disposable tray and allowed the dying embers to cook the waffles through slightly. The marshmallows melted and softened and mixed with the chocolate which when combined with the fruit such as strawberries, bananas and peaches. A delightful way to finish off the first meal which I made for tea on the first night camping.

Camping with the family involved a lot of ideas and everything was planned in order to prepare meals which all the family would enjoy, from Pizza to Smores Cones to Pasta dishes and Burgers galore my family have enjoyed a delicious selection of food to keep them happy and fill their tummies to enjoy their holiday to the full.

The holiday has come to an end, so I need to get back to my blog all guns blazing. Whilst I was away, I had time to think about where I wanted my writing to go and in what direction I thought I could take my books in the future. I have a couple of ideas going around in my head which I am going to try so watch this space as I will be trying them on recipes which I add to my blog. When I was away I did not try to add anything to my website, blog etc so when I  have looked at the numbers of visitors over the last week I have been quite pleasantly surprised by the results. I think a lot of the attention has come from the pricing strategy ideas article which I added in the week before I went away.

From my camping escapades, I will be sharing the recipe ideas and how to improve the meals which I prepared this last week and hope to give some inspiration to others.  The photos which I did manage to take do not do the food justice as they were taken with a phone and not my food photography camera. I will have to make the meals again and take some more detailed photos of the end results.

Being away on holiday, helped to recharge the batteries, dust off the cobwebs but the best part was the lack of internet as being in an area where there is no wifi makes you find other things to do instead of sitting on the technology. It was a welcome break which we all enjoyed as a family but even if we had access to the internet I would have struggled to write anything for my blog as we were constantly busy doing other things. Now I am back and I have missed baking and the writing so tomorrow I will be back in the kitchen. 🙂
