“Baby Shower” Cupcakes – something I have never been asked to make before and I have really enjoyed every part of the process. I have baked Cupcakes before but never adorned with “baby shower” decorations so when the request came in I went into creative baker mode straight away. I had several questions for the customer to answer before I could even start with the planning for the order but once I had more details that was all the information I needed to begin the process which all started on the Monday after the order was received on the previous Saturday.
For the decorations I had the image which I customer had sent to show the colours and the type of design that they would like on the Cupcakes and I knew I had to work with modelling paste to achieve a hard decoration that would not sag and disintegrate when placed on top of a buttercream swirl especially in the heat we were all working in last week. I ordered the necessary cookie cutters, on Saturday night, as I knew that I didn’t have anything suitable and these arrived on Monday so I had no excuse not to make a start. The sugarpaste decorations were left to dry all week to ensure that they were all nice and hard before I used them on the finished cupcakes.
The Cupcakes were baked on Saturday morning – nice and early – so that they were as fresh as possible and once they had cooled a swirl of light green buttercream (customer request) was added followed by a sugarpaste decoration or a few sprinkles – to mix the cupcakes up a bit. Then the Cupcakes were boxed up and labelled ready for the customer to come and collect them. Talk about a production line!!
Later that day, I received a message that the “Baby Shower” Cupcakes were delicious so I am feeling rather pleased with myself and my little homebaking business as I still get that self doubt and nervous feeling every time a customer receives an order even after all these years. 🙂
This week has been a rather quiet one on the baking front but I do have a few bakes to get through and I have some fantastic news to share but not just yet. All will be revealed soon. Let’s just say that I am very excited about it but for now I am keeping just going to bide my time and be patient 🙂
