The Royal Wedding is nearly upon us so my Friday Treat Box is going to be coloured red, white and blue with this theme in mind. However, I am going to “kill two birds with one stone” – cruel I know – as my Baked Doughnuts for “National Doughnut Week” will be what is on offer. These will be available for collection and for postal delivery if ordered in time for a weekend delivery. The offer is 6 doughnuts for £5.00 or 10 doughnuts for £9.00 (not including postage) – so if you feel like something a bit different for the weekend order them now.

Baked Doughnuts

These doughnuts are going to be miniature jam filled ones and larger ring doughnuts. Something for everyone in this treat box. I am only using jam as it is my favourite but at a later date they will be available with other fillings. My husband came up with the idea to make the doughnuts red, white and blue to celebrate the Royal Wedding.

At the moment, I am busy catching up on my book keeping and planing to create some sugar paste flowers and decorations for a dummy cake which I want to cover just to show what I am capable of creating. The problem is that the weather is too nice at the moment to be sat inside moulding flowers  from flower modelling paste so I haven’t even tried to begin with that work yet. Also, I really need to get back to my chocolatier course which seems to have hit the back burner and I was doing so well with it too. I have to push myself this week if I want to get anything done and I can feel the wallpaper stripping calling me from here at my desk to go and remove some more but I hadn’t planned to do that today. I know if I start that job I will not get anything else done.

Yesterday, I was busy in the kitchen baking both savoury and sweet bakes.  Some were orders which I am baking for postal delivery and there was some spares which I put up for collection. I have just come back from the post office so I have switched the computer on even though I know I need to go to the shop. Bad idea really as I may just become engrossed on the screen and not get anything else done today.

I baked Quiches, both meaty and veggy,  to cover all the tastes in my household. I will share the recipe for these tomorrow as May the 20th is “National Quiche Lorraine Day”. Also, I baked a Swiss Roll with a difference as I wanted to make something fancier for dinner which had the red, white and blue theme to it so I decorated the Swiss Roll with blueberries, raspberries and strawberries and lashings of fresh double cream. The filling consisted of double cream and strawberry jam. I made a standard cake batter for this Berries & Cream Swiss Roll rather than the whisked sponge as I prefer the sponge made that way because it keeps better, not that is lasts very long though. This pudding was a big hit with the family, so much so, that one of my daughters tried to pinch a bit for her breakfast but I stopped her 🙂

Berries and Cream Swiss Roll

I have offered the Berries and Cream Swiss Roll as my Friday Treat Box as I thought it was a nice alternative to the Baked Doughnuts for my customers who won’t all be watching the Royal Wedding as the FA Cup Final is being shown on Saturday too. I think the Berries and Cream Swiss Roll would be great for the Royal Wedding and the Baked Doughnuts would be great for the FA Cup. What do you think??

I already have a few orders in for both of these treats so it looks like tomorrow is a baking day for me which I am happy with. It means for the rest of today I need to get a move on to finish my jobs before school pick up. “No rest for the wicked” is there?
